Ir. Dr. Koay is the TRIZ International Expert and Consultant. He is an R&D specialist engineer in the Center of Excellence (CoE), ViTrox. As the expert team leader for Part-ID standardization, he leads the organization’s cultural shift project for the designing process, procurement process, risk opportunities study, and cost reduction activities. Besides, he is also the consultant in establishing PMO for ViTrox with the IPD (Integrated Product Development) implementation. Meanwhile, he is the Academic Head of ViTrox Academy (VA) and ViTrox College.
Besides, he is an Asst. Prof. in UTAR, Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology, Kampar. Besides, he was a senior lecturer in UniKL, School of Mechanical, MSI Kulim, before joining UTAR. Besides, he was the senior researcher in Advanced Ceramics Technology (ACT). He led several projects in the ACT and set up communication meetings for stakeholders. He became a professional engineer (P.Eng.) in 2018 with BEM. He is also appointed as the visiting lecturer at KDU Penang University College, twinning with Northumbria University.
He holds first-class honors degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) (2009) and won dean-lists each semester. He is a recipient of the Vice-Chancellor’s Award (2009-2012) in USM for Ph.D. study. His current research interests include Bionic mechanism development, Engineering problem solving-TRIZ, Green technology, Innovative product development (mechanical design), Linear optical scanner, Linkage mechanism study, Medical prosthetic development, Soft robot, Integrated Product Development (IPD), Project Management, and DFMA.
He is also a certified Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) specialist (MaTRIZ) and instructor (TTT-PSMB). Dr. Koay has conducted several facilitation sessions and consultations with several industries, including semiconductor, automotive, and automation factories such as Intel, Celestica, Crest Ultrasonic, etc. Furthermore, he conducts CAD seminars for industrial companies.
He is the corresponding author and reviewer in several paper publications and product patterning. He has published mechanical design and automatic control articles in journals and conferences, including ASME and Elsevier.
Dr. Koay has guided and trained Ph.D. and Master Students in different fields of studies, including the silicon strength test and MEMS technology. Besides, he is actively involved as the project leader in several grants with Scanner, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, and LPG engine topics.
He does love to fill in his leisure time with photography and charity work.
